UNSSC On-line Communities’ Platform (OCP)

Code of conduct

To the extent that the UNSSC provides, through a dedicated Web site, means to facilitate communication and information exchange among community members, and in accordance with UN core values (integrity, professionalism and respect for diversity), you agree that by using this platform you will post certain kinds of messages (Do’s) and not post or transmit messages or any of the following materials (Don’ts) on the site:

Do’s:

  1. Make your community valuable. The higher the quality of your comments and postings, the higher the quality of the exchange will be. Use terms that are familiar to most everyone in the community and spell out abbreviations not commonly used across the UN system.

  2. Add a subject line that is meaningful, such as: “Establishing consulting fees, what are the rules and current practices?” or “Need a teambuilding exercise for a senior management retreat.” This will help other community members to know whether they can respond in a meaningful way.

  3. Keep the message clear and concise, enclose links to any relevant on-line resources and attach any relevant documents.

  4. Remember you’re responsible for the content of your message, including its reliability and completeness.

  5. Use standard email etiquette: Use upper and lower case letters (not ALL CAPS), use spell check before you post your message, be sure the content is productive and helpful, and represents mutual respect.

  6. Refer other community members to on-line resources and discussions available through the communities’ site.

  7. Use the community’s Invite member feature to promote participation of relevant colleagues in our communities’ discussions. Remember that while members can freely contribute to discussions, the on-line library, community calendars, etc., membership is subject to approval in accordance with agreed eligibility criteria.

  8. Use your community’s Announcements to share vacancy announcements and other training and learning-related employment opportunities.

  9. Use your community’s Events calendar to inform other community members about the possibility to enrol in relevant learning opportunities within your respective organizational setting.

  10. Use your community’s on-line Library as the main vehicle to share learning and training resources, policies and reports with other community members and receive feedback. By using the on-line library you enable stronger collaboration features such as versioning.

Don’ts:

  1. Refrain from sharing your personal username and password information. Remember that community membership is subject to specific eligibility criteria to protect the privacy and integrity of our exchange. Should you believe a colleague deserves to be included in a particular community use the “Invite member” functionality to request clearance to do so from community moderators.

  2. Avoid using the community’s e-mail address to send personal messages or share any piece of information relevant only to a specific community member. Remember that any messages or contributions made through the platform are automatically sent to all community members.

  3. Refrain from distributing unauthorized copyrighted work or any other material that infringes on the intellectual property rights, trade secrets, or privacy of another. Anyone who suspects copyright infringement should send a message to communitysupport@unssc.org and identify the community, name of the contributor, title of the message or document (if applicable) and the date of the post.

  4. Refrain from making statements or sharing material which typically would not be considered socially or professionally responsible or appropriate in a UN official (such as, but not limited to, illegal, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful or racially offensive materials, junk mail and spam).

  5. Refrain from making statements or sharing material which is “off-topic” for a designated community, i.e., anything that is not informational in nature and related to the topic identified for discussion in each thread and/or discussion group.

  6. Avoid sharing files which contain malicious code, viruses, corrupted files, or any other similar software or programs that may damage the operation of another’s computer, network, or the UNSSC on-line communities’ site.

  7. Refrain from making statements or sharing material which violates other contractual or fiduciary rights, duties, or agreements.

We encourage you to take full advantage of the UNSSC’s on-line communities’ communication and collaboration capabilities. However, should we find postings that are inappropriate for any reason, we will remove them. The UNSSC may issue warnings to infringers. The UNSSC reserves the right to revoque membership rights and ban contributors to preserve the value of the communities should any member persist in inappropriate behaviour or in cases of blatant and/or severe infringement.

Please help us ensure the integrity of our exchange by notifying the UNSSC’s communities support team (communitysupport@unssc.org) of any content you may deem inappropriate or offensive in light of the above-mentioned ground rules.
